James (Jim) Barbee, chair of the conference Commission of Archives and History and historian at the Broad Street UMC, represented the West Ohio Conference at the annual meeting of the General Commission on Archives and History (GCAH) at Drew University, Madison, NJ, on September 10-12.

As part of the meeting, chairpersons of 34 conference commissions from across the country attended a training session, which focused on familiarization with the updated manual for conference commissions, the latest additions to on-line material available on the GCAH website and latest advances in storage and preservation of digital materials.

A highlight of the weekend was the presentation of the 2009 GCAH Distinguished Service Award to Bishop Forrest C. Stith, President of the African American Methodist Heritage Center in Madison.

Information and resources for local church historians is available at General Commision of Archives & History or United Methodist Historical Society of Ohio.
